Westside Boogie Austin Concert reviews
Maiden was good, venue was bad
I was thrilled to witness 2 of my preferred bands concurrently in one place. Dream Theater put on a fantastic performance. Despite having only a 50-minute set, they managed to deliver an excellent mix from their repertoire. The main issue was that their FOH Engineer neglected to unmute James Labrie's vocal microphone until 5 words into the first song.
Westside Boogie deliberately took to the stage late. During the set change, Bruce appeared and informed the audience that the show would commence 30 minutes behind schedule due to a large number of fans still outside the venue. The show kicked off with high energy but then transitioned to a slower tempo for most of the performance. They focused on songs from their recent albums that were less energetic. Although they included some classics, it was not as many as I had hoped for.
The San Manuel Amphitheater was a disaster. The doors were opened only an hour before the start time. While security checks are necessary for safety, the extensive screening process created a line stretching for miles of people waiting to enter. The initial parking situation seemed fine with plenty of free spaces. However, after the show, the parking attendants who had efficiently managed the lot were nowhere to be found. Chaos ensued as 20,000 people attempted to exit onto a two-lane road without any organization until reaching the main road.
